Functional assessment of the lumbar spine, sacroiliac joints, and right hip was essentially normal, with the exception of mild movement rigidity noted in the lumbar region.

- With the involved side uppermost, palpate the quadratus lumborum muscle along its insertion from the iliac crest to the 12th rib/transverse processes.
- Apply firm compression (pressure) vertically through the muscle belly toward the iliac crest.
- Ask the patient whether the applied pressure reproduces their characteristic pain pattern (local or referred).
- A positive test is one in which the patient reports familiar pain when the quadratus lumborum is compressed.
